I am a big fan of MT Tape and love the possibilities of using them to decorate my new home. There are many different types of washi/paper tapes available in the market, but for lasting and waterproof capability, you need to use MT brand. MT brand is surprisingly reusable, that is, you can stick it on any smooth surface and you can peel it off and reuse on another surface and it still remains sticky. However, you don’t expect it to remain sticky after sticking it on dusty surface like concrete/cement where there is fine particles that will attach itself to the tape.

In this tutorial, I am customising the IKEA FROSTA stool. I love the woody feel and the absolutely flat surface. It makes it easy to stick the MT tape on it. With all the different colours and designs available from MT, you can make a variety of combinations using a few tapes. You can have a whimsical , classy or cafe theme by choosing the right tapes. Let’s start to impress your guests for your home/wedding/party now.

 Materials

1. IKEA FROSTA stool
2. MT Tapes 50mm size (choose at least 2 colours)
3. Scissors
4. Chair socks from Daiso (optional)

Instructions

Step 1

Assemble the stool. You may choose to stick the MT tape first if you prefer the bottom side of the stool to be neat as well.

Step 2

Attach the chair socks. This step is optional because chair socks only helps to protect your floor from scratches and adds some cuteness to your stools.

Step 3

Select 2 or more MT CASA Tapes with 50mm size. You can also use MT CASA Deco tapes which are 100mm size. It is a little bit more tricky to use the 100mm size tapes because air bubbles tend to get trapped. Thus, in order not to get frustrated with air bubbles, I will suggest starting with the 50mm size.

Step 4

Start from the edge, leave approximately 1 inch (25mm) gap or slightly more because you need to fold in the sides so that the tape can cover the sides of the stool. Remember to leave extra tape for the top and bottom part too.

Step 5

Alternate the different colours. You can choose any colours you like. For my video, I am using gold, gold polka dots and stripe silver.

Step 6

Trim the tape on the edge in half and fold in. Follow the curve of the stool and fold the tape to the underneath of the stool. Leave the two long sides to the next step.

Step 7

For the two long sides, cut the tape into approximately 1 inch (25mm) gaps and fold in. There will be some odd size at the corner, you may trim them smaller so that it is easier to fold in the tape.
