This tutorial teaches you how to revamp your existing red packet into something that is uniquely yours. During the lunar new year, the married and working Chinese adults will give red packets as a form of blessing to the younger generation and to their parents.

Every year, I try to personalise my own red packets from as I only need a couple of these packets to give to my parents. However, after getting married, I realised that it is very time consuming to make red packets from scratch. Here’s what I intend to do this year. Instead of making the entire red packet myself, I decide to customize the existing ones given by the banks (they’re free) and add on to them with my personal touch.

Of course, this fun project isn’t limited only to the Chinese. Other races of people can use this tutorial to revamp their own packets of blessings during their festive celebrations such as Deepavali or Hari Raya or even blessings for wedding couples.

Materials

1. Red packet
2. Paper doily (small) (medium is optional)
3. Rubber stamp (you can buy exisiting ones or carve your own. I will be teaching basic to rubber stamp carving in another tutorial)
4. Red ink pad (satin red from versafine) (red is auspicious colour for the chinese. You can use other colours if you like)
5. Cream and red coloured paper (at least 120gsm)
6. Glue
7. Scissors
8. 1-1/2″ circle punch
9. 2″ flower / scallop punch

Instructions

Horse Red Packet

Step 1

Ink your horse rubber stamp and stamp onto the cream coloured paper.

Step 2

Punch out the horse picture on the cream paper using the 1-1/2″ circle punch.

Step 3

Punch out a 2″ flower/scallop using the 2″ flower/scallop punch on the red coloured paper.

Step 4

Stick the circle with the horse picture onto the red flower.

Step 5

Then stick them onto the small doily.

Step 6

Lastly, stick the doily onto the red packet.

Butterfly with Flower Red Packet

Step 1

Ink your butterfly stamp and stamp onto the cream coloured paper.

Step 2

Cut out the paper according to the butterfly stamp shape.

Step 3

Stick the paper onto the small doily, then stick onto the medium doily.

Step 4

Stick the medium doily onto the red packet. (remember to stick the excess doily to the back of the red packet)
